Currently, now I'm on industrial training which mean it's part of my course as a hospitality student. I have my training in Sheraton KL.. Well, I can say that the place is not bad, rarely have indian ( I didn't mean to be racist ), chinese, then malay, most of them is malay la.. but, some of the part timers are from myanmmar and philipines.
I have been there for 2 months ++, before i was in finance department, now change to Villa Danieli kitchen, it's the italian cuisine.. But, the chefs are Malay. hehe.
For me, the first day is really made me feel stress, because i didn't know anything, everything, and the way to communicate with the associates are different.
In finance, if i want to call them, no need to call "kakak, abang, sir, miss, madam, etc" just called them by their name, eventhough if u call them with sir or miss, they might be prefer to be called with their name. And in finance, obviously i speak english to most of them, just speak indonesian with my friends.
In kitchen, i need to call them "kakak or abang" no "sir" and "miss", well, because all of them are malay, the one who is chinese is the trainee, that is me and the other one. The head chef is dayak, he is a nice guy. =) for me, 1st day, most of them i called them by their name, it's a bit awkward, yeah, u know, how is it to be different and not all ppl can received it. I need some time to adaptate with the environment there. Surprisingly, the chefs at there expect me to be friendly, really friendly like talk to them as a family or friend. It's quite hard, because I'm not speak english to them, they spoke malay (walaoo e ). And somehow, my ears can't listen to malay language clearly, although it's almost same with indonesian language.
Today is my 4th day, i feel that better than before, not as awkward as before. (hmm) =p and i learnt quite a lot today.. I can make pizza, from the dough until put the ingridients only. Then, I know what I must to do, because they told me.
A ya, and actually, there is 1 chef who is very nice, not the head chef, but the one that usually made the pizza, he introduced to me some stuff, weird stuffs, the name of the machine, the parts, etc. =)
I just realize that, it's not easy to work, especially when we are not cheer up ! They could ask us "Are u ok ??? " if it's only once or twice, it might be means that they are care with us, but if they asked us more than that, i think there should be some thing wrong with me. =(
1 of the chef there said that my face is a sleepy face, then not cheer up, etc. As a trainee that works in kitchen should be more cheer la, bcause some how, the other may be don't like when see the others not look good.. I think, i should change. Not show the unhappy face, must smile all the time, try to communicate with the chefs at there.
